Advertorial – South Africa has always been at the top of my bucket list because I enjoy wildlife and I was very eager to see the ‘Big 5’ in their natural habitat. I got a chance to escort a Craig Travel group last February- hooray!! What I didn’t realize was that the trip would be so much more than just seeing wildlife. Of course I was blown away by the majestic giraffes that strolled slowly through the game parks, the giant elephants that suddenly appeared on the road ahead of us and the 11 lions feasting on a small deceased elephant that surrounded us on either side of the road. It was truly incredible to see nature unedited. I took videos and pictures of everything. So I did see the Big 5 and what an incredible experience, but South Africa is so much more than game drives.
Thanks to Beverley Gossayn, our local guide extraordinaire, I learned everything about her beautiful country – their politics, economy, topography, social structure, apartheid and the legacy of Nelson Mandela. Beverley is passionate about her country and every day she covered another new and interesting topic. She is an expert guide and almost exclusively guides groups for Craig Travel. We were very fortunate to experience South Africa through her eyes.
Expect to stay in wonderful hotels, eat incredible food and see all of the sights – including a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain, a boat ride to see a penguin colony, a fabulous meal at a winery, and a visit to spectacular Victoria Falls – just to name a few. There are so many highlights; every day brings a new experience. Be prepared to gain a few pounds – particularly when you arrive at the game parks where the food just keeps getting better. What could be more spectacular than eating under the stars in Chobe Game Lodge with light provided by candelabra? And of course this spectacular lodge is the only lodge that is inside the National Park, making it even more special.
