A recent analysis of nearly 21,000 health, wellness, and medical apps revealed that 88 percent were capable of collecting user information such as location and device details. In addition, one in four didn’t have an explicit privacy policy, with medical apps the worst offenders in this regard.
Tips on protecting your privacy include using only approved apps from official app stores, verifying the permissions and info granted to app developers, limiting location permissions, and keeping all programs up to date. Researchers also advise that users consider the risks versus benefits of downloading and retaining these types of apps.
