The Gift of Summer
Sunlight lingers on porches,
A gentle hush of cricket song at dusk.
For some, no alarm clocks—only sunrise
Peeking through the bedroom curtains.
Tomatoes plump on the vine,
Warm with memory and scent.
Neighbours wave from their gardens,
A celebration of the good years, past and future.
Summer’s pace is slow and sweet,
A time for easy chairs and ice-cold tea.
Stories drift like campfire smoke,
Held in the hush of warm twilight.
Evening’s gentle sigh of breeze.
Fireflies wink at wisdom earned.
In the twilight of these golden days,
Summer, for those in twilight, is a gift.
