I never thought that I would still feel stress after my retirement (other than the usual “Gosh, I’m getting old” butterflies) but I do—for a number of reasons, such as worrying about money, the environment, and the health of my family and friends.
I took some advice from your article “Tried-and-True Techniques for Managing Stress” (November/December 2024) and began knitting again—wow, it does make a difference. I hadn’t done it in quite a while, but I went at it with a different mindset this time.
Of course, I can’t knit all my problems away, but my brain goes into hyper-focus mode each time I grab those needles. After an hour or so, I feel more relaxed and I breathe more easily. I encourage everyone to give it a try (gentlemen, too!).
