Uncover the Untamed Flora and Fauna of Costa Rica

Advertorial – With winter finally settling in, have you decided on what your winter getaway will be this year? Craig Travel welcomes you to join our journey to Costa Rica, where we’ll enjoy the flora and fauna of this vibrant oasis. With over 25% of the country’s land being protected in the form of national parks and reserves, Costa Rica has earned its reputation as one of the world’s most eco-minded countries. Our trip will take us to tropical rainforests, windswept beaches and high in the mountains that surround active volcanoes. Despite the trip’s diversity, we’ll enjoy a leisurely pace with time to slow down and soak in all that this tropical paradise has to offer.

Since roughly a quarter of Costa Rica is made up of protected jungle, this country is absolutely teeming with wildlife, and we’ll have time devoted to taking in the natural beauty. A trip to Tortuguero National Park will take us past volcanic mountains and into a dense rainforest where wildlife sightings include herons, toucans and monkeys. On another excursion we’ll enjoy the lush greenery of Monteverde Cloud Forest with our own private guide to help point out the different types of indigenous plants and wildlife such as capuchin monkeys, white hawks, and iguanas. This trip is an absolute photographer’s dream as the undisturbed landscape provides a flourishing backdrop and wildlife sightings are a frequent delight.

Beyond Costa Rica’s pristine natural beauty lies the magnetism of its vibrant culture and friendly people. We’ll have many opportunities to learn about its history, including a trip to the Gold Museum and the National Theatre. In Arenal, we’ll visit a local school to learn about their educational system, and in Doka we’ll learn all about the fascinating process of coffee production. We’ll even get creative in the kitchen with a special cooking class to discover the local flavours, attend a traditional rodeo with a display of equestrian games, and be entertained by local dancers and musicians while enjoying an authentic barbecue dinner. With such a vibrant zest for life, the exuberant culture of Costa Rica is sure to ignite your spirit.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a proper winter getaway without time for rest and relaxation. We’ll enjoy a variety of tranquil accommodations including eco-lodges featuring lush gardens, refreshing pools and mountain views. With leisure time built into the trip, it’s easy to take a quick jaunt to the beach and relax by the ocean with a book, or step into town to browse the traditional wares in the local markets. We’ll even have the chance to visit the Tabacon Hot Springs to relax in the natural hot pools while allowing the healing waters to rejuvenate our energy before heading back to our frosty homes in Canada.

Costa Rica includes everything that a perfect winter getaway should: untamed beauty and a chance to reconnect with nature, a rich and varied culture that is sure to inspire, and a blend of both adventure and relaxation that’s a perfect reprieve from the harsh winter gales to come.
