Latin Dances for Brain Health

By Wendy Haaf

Learning and practising Latin dance moves can both help you get fit and give your brain a boost, US researchers say.

In a randomized study, 167 older adults attended twice-weekly 60-minute lessons in merengue, cha-cha, bachata, and salsa over four months, followed by another four months during which they learned four more new moves.

A control group of 166 participants received only health education. After eight months, the dancers saw significant improvements in walking speed and working memory.
